Rehab Day 3
I was up early today. I didn't sleep well—one of the patients was having a rough night, which resulted in a lot of wailing. I'm not sure what was happening, but I hope she is doing better today.
I went exploring a bit today. Took the wheelchair out and roamed the halls at about 5:30 a.m. Managed to find the coffee machine, so I had a cup and wrote a bit in my journal. Letting my brain off the leash first thing in the morning helps me focus the rest of the day.
Met the weekend complement of doctors and nurses, a different crew than the weekday folks. Still, good people.
Had a nice call with my friend David from the Lair Of Secrets podcast about this, that, and the other thing. Mostly our little projects. And writing.
People are very kind here. I've been a little blown away by it. I'm not sure I've ever been treated as kindly as I have been here. It's refreshing... it makes me a little emotional. I wish I had seen this sort of kindness in other settings in my life, such as work or church back when I went.
My old friend Rob came into town to help my wife with some things around the house, then he came by and we visited for a few hours. Had a dinner of Beef Hot Shot and succotash, followed by cherry cobbler with real whipped cream. Made for a nice afternoon.
Tonight I'll hop on Zoom to meet with one of my D&D groups for some social time. Wish I had a Manhattan for that, but we cannot have everything we want.
