The House To Myself
It's been a quiet weekend in the house. My wife has gone to Columbus, OH, for a bachelorette weekend for a friend, and the cats and I have been holding down the fort.
It's nice to have a little time to myself. For whatever reason, I get a lot more done around here when my wife is out. She says the same thing for when I leave the house. Does anyone else do this?
So, it's been a weekend of cooking and chores, which is fine by me.
- I made Latif's Base Gravy, which my friend David introduced me to. Latif owns a curry shop in Britain, and this is the base he uses for a number of his dishes. I made a batch and froze about 8 cups of it for future dishes.
- I also made some spaghetti sauce from scratch and froze that as well, for quick meals when I'm not sure what to make.
- Lots of basic maintenance: clearing out slow drains, scrubbing down the bathroom, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning up the cats' room.
I watched a couple of movies as well.
- Akira, which I had not seen before. I can see why this is such a seminal work, but based on the recommendation of a friend, I want to read the manga. The movie was good, but a lot of character development was missing. You could feel it. Still...it was worthwhile.
- Play Dirty, which is a sort of pastiche of Richard Stark's Parker novels. I loved those books, but this movie was...okay. I like a heist movie, but Mark Wahlberg was an interesting choice for Parker. He gets the character about 50% of the time. It was also sort of a comedy? Which...I dunno. It was fine. I folded laundry during it. It served the purpose.
The cats made me turn the furnace on this morning. The wimps couldn't handle 62 degrees F in the house. I woke with them curled up next to me.
Today will be quiet. I'm working my way through some books and the most recent issue of 2600. I have tomorrow off due to the federal holiday and might get out into the world a little.
Have a good Sunday, catch you next time.
